The Essentials of Vitamin for Hair Growth

Getting the right nutrients for healthy hair growth means ingesting foods rich in the vitamins that help metabolize the foods we eat, either naturally from certain food groups or from diet supplements. Just be sure not to overcook some foods as vitamins are easily lost in the cooking process.

Here are some of these vitamins:

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is essentially an antioxidant that helps keep the natural emollients and oils secreted to moisturize both skin and scalp. They are best found in poultry products like eggs as well as in dairy products like milk and cheese by products. Vegetables are also rich in them like spinach, broccoli, and cabbage.

Vitamin B

Vitamin B is a complex of many B variants some of which are known to contribute directly to promoting hair growth.

Vitamin B6 or Biotin helps to produces keratin. Hair is 100% made of keratin so it makes sense to have more of this to give follicles the raw materials in producing hair. The substance can be found in poultry and dairy products like eggs, milk as well as whole grains and rice. There are cosmetic products like shampoos and conditioners that are advertised to contain Biotin and it may be worthwhile to check them out.

Vitamin B3 (Niacin) is known to stimulate and improve blood flow circulation in the scalp. It can be found in fish and poultry notably chicken and turkey as well as animal meat products.

Vitamin B5 or Panthenol is almost always present in regular diets and helps prevent hair loss while stimulating growth of new ones.

Vitamin B12 also prevents hair loss as it sustains metabolic rates at the cellular level enabling hair follicles to absorb nutrients and metabolize them for keratin production. It can be found in dairy and poultry products.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is one of nature’s most powerful antioxidants and taken together with Vitamin A, it helps maintain the scalp’s natural oils for the right environment to grow hairs. It is also known to increase the body’s resistance against common diseases and infections that can weaken follicles into producing hair. Vitamin C is most abundant in citrus fruits and is likewise found in green leafy vegetables and potatoes.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D deficiency can lead to hair loss but an over production of Vitamin D in the body can also lead to hair loss. The body produces vitamin D with adequate exposure to the sun outdoors should be enough for the body’s nutritional needs.

Mega doses of supplementary vitamin D can be toxic enough to cause imbalances with other nutritive minerals such as phosphorous and calcium. Hair loss in patches often associated with Alopecia Aerata is an autoimmune abnormality. Proper vitamin D production helps control autoimmunity and prevents Alopecia Aerata.

If Vitamin D deficiency is the suspected trigger for hair loss, getting the right sun exposure or diet supplementation can restore hair growth.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E enhances oxygen intake that aid in blood circulation to the scalp areas for hair to receive nutrients.  It is also widely considered as an antiaging vitamin with excellent antioxidative properties that maintain supple and youthful skin textures.

Hair loss treatment is often not complete without it.  Vitamin E is abundant in vegetable oils, nuts, beans, and green vegetables but is more popular as a diet supplement.  Natural vitamin E is preferred as it is better absorbed in the body.
